See you reel soon!

Thelma-y-Louise

When we go see a great movie, there’s a sadness that sets in when the credits start to roll. It’s almost like a sudden break-up with a seeming perfect partner in that there’s a part of you that wants to cling to everything amazing, but also a part of you that realizes you need to move on to new and—possibly—better things.

Cinefilles is about to roll its credits for the first time in six years. That’s not to say that this is the definitive end—the final cut, if you will—for us as a platform for talking about women in film. We are simply taking a break from publishing for the time being. In other words, it’s likely that you’ll see us real (reel!) soon, ready to screen a director’s cut of new reviews, interviews and features.

While some of the most remarkable filmmakers can make and release one film a year like clockwork, others need to take some time off between projects to refuel their creative drive and leave that last one behind. After years of never taking a vacation, you can consider us in the latter group.

In other words, it’s not say that we’re not interested in exploring the women’s roles behind and in front of the camera. In fact, over the six years we’ve been online, we’ve grown more and more passionate for sharing the female experience of film, whether that’s from a filmmaker or film lover perspective. (And a big part of that comes from the response we’ve gotten from you readers. So, thank you!) We would just like to take some time to hit the creative reset button.

We can’t say for sure how long you’ll have to wait for our director’s cut and our follow-up catalogue. But we will say that you can keep some popcorn aside for that moment. Just make sure to save some for us, okay?
